Botox for Anti-Aging
Botox is a substance derived from Botulin Toxin A. It is a muscle relaxant. It is used in aesthetics to relax certain muscles in the face and neck, so that the contraction is limited.
With repeated muscle contraction, you start form fine lines and wrinkles. By stopping the contraction of these muscles with botox, we prevent those lines from deepening. In this way, we soften the existing wrinkles and prevent new lines from forming.
Typical treatment areas are the frown lines (between the eyebrows), forehead lines (lines which deepen when rising the eyebrows) and crows feet (lines at the outer corners of each eye). It is a versatile treatment which can also be used to provide a non-surgical eyebrow lift, as well as lift a drooping mouth.
Botox is a very safe treatment and is also used to treat excessive teeth grinding (Bruxism) and excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
The treatment consists of injecting small doses of botox into the muscle directly. Topical anesthetic can be applied beforehand, although most patients don’t need it as there is no long-lasting pain.
The full effect of the treatment is seen 14 days post-procedure and this is why the top-up appointment is scheduled at this time. At the top-up appointment, further botox may be injected if there is room for improvement.
The effect lasts between 3-4 months.
For the best aesthetic result, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- You need to stay upright for the next 4 hours after the treatment
- No touching or pressing the areas which have been injected for 2 days (this includes massages/facials)
- No exercise for 2 days
- No alcohol for 2 days
Botox is an excellent anti-aging treatment which gives patients a rested, rejuvenated appearance without the need for drastic invasive surgery.
