Skin peels are used for a variety of reasons:
- Remove dead skin cells to give a radiance and glow
- To treat pigmentation disorders
- To reduce the effects of sun damage
- To treat acne
- To stimulate collagen and elastin in the skin, thereby improving the typical ‘crepe-paper’ appearance of aging skin
Medical grade peels differ from salon-grade peels in that the concentration of the active ingredients are higher and as a result can penetrate alot deeper into the skin.
Generally the deeper a peel penetrates, the longer the ‘down-time’ needed.
By using peels together with good skin care products, the active ingredients can affect the deeper levels of the skin and give patients the maximal benefit.
The number and frequency of peels is made on an individualized basis.
As the peels are involved in removing layers of dead skin cells, it is normal for the skin to be a little more sensitive for a few days after the treatment. It is imperative that the patient uses a good sunscreen with SPF50 daily, even if they work indoors.
Sunscreen is an important part of any skin-care regimen to prevent recurring damage form the sun.
A number of dermatologically-approved sunscreens, which are non-greasy and can be applied under make-up, are available at our clinic.
In addition, different ranges of dermatologically-approved skincare products to treat aging, acne or pigmentation are also available for purchase.
