Microneedling
Microneedling or Dermapen, as it is commonly known, is a handheld device that it used to puncture the skin at different depths, which the practitioner sets, depending on the condition.
This series of punctures induces controlled injury to the skin, which helps the skin to tighten and rejuvenate by inducing collagen and secondly, allows the treatment serums to penetrate more deeply.
This treatment is used to treat:
- Wrinkles/’crepey’ skin, especially smokers lines
- Acne
- Pigmentation
- Rosacea
- Stretch marks
- Scars
- Rough/uneven skin texture
The procedure is completely safe.
Sterile single use needles are used and a topical anaesthetic is applied to the skin beforehand, to ensure the comfort of the patient.
The entire procedure takes between 30-45 minutes.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MICRO-NEEDLING AND DERMAROLLER?
The advantage of micro-needling over dermarolling is that the beneficial effects of micro-needling are longer-lasting. The micro-needling treatment is more effective at treating troublesome conditions and there is also less downtime, as the rollers tend to tear the skin rather than puncture it cleanly. Dermarollers have largely fallen out of favour in medical aesthetics because of these reasons.
IS THERE A BENEFIT OF MICRO-NEEDLING OVER SKIN PEELS?
Micro-needling and skin peels are complementary to each other, rather than competing treatments, as they work at different levels. Micro-needling works at a deeper level to promote cellular renewal while skin peels work at a more superficial level to aid in sebum production, pigmentation reductions and restoration of radiance.
HOW MUCH DOWNTIME WOULD I NEED?
The amount of downtime depends on the depth of needle puncture and the condition being treated. This extends to a few days at the maximum.
We prep darker skin tones beforehand to ensure the best and safest results from the treatment.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Even after a single treatment , one can expect the texture of the skin to become smoother, to notice a decrease in pore size and a decrease in breakouts.
These benefits build on each other over time, and the underlying healing process continues, even after the course of treatments has been completed. This results in fresh, more youthful, healthier skin.
